Formula

max(ev_sum) — the hardest non-bunt tracked batted ball of the span. Free of any new fact: ev_sum already stores each plate appearance's own exit velocity, so a maximum over any grouping of these rows is that grouping's maximum.

Era caveats

Bunts are excluded

Every exit-velocity figure excludes bunts, matching Savant's hfFlag=is..bunt search flag. That flag reproduces Savant's published exit velocity exactly; velocity cutoffs and the sac_bunt column do not. (runbook §16)

Three tracking systems across the seasons shown

Rows carry a tracking_era of trackman, hawkeye or hawkeye_bat (migration 001). The systems differ in what they measure and how precisely, so long spans cross a measurement boundary as well as a rule one.

2026-08-31 — Added with the spine slice, chosen as the instrument for whether Savant's imputed placeholder balls belong in every batted-ball metric or just hard-hit%: including and excluding them computed an identical max_ev for every player, 0/0/0 across four season × side combinations.
