Each pitch is credited with the outs made between it and the next pitch of its half-inning (at the half’s last pitch, the outs left to make three; on a walk-off, the outs the play itself made), plus any out recorded before the half’s first pitch. At a pitching change between plate appearances, an out the play’s description doesn’t explain happened before the reliever’s first pitch and is his.

Version history
- 2026-09-27: Added to the Explorer. Outs match MLB’s official count for every pitcher of 2025 and for 9,792 of 9,833 pitcher-seasons across 2015–2026. The rest are outs the pitch-by-pitch record cannot place: a runner retired before a reliever’s first pitch to end a half-inning, an appearance with no pitch, and one rain-shortened ninth.
