Batter

Competitive swings: tracked swings at or above the batter's own 10th-percentile bat speed for the season, plus slower swings of at least 60 mph that still produced a 90+ mph exit velocity. A bunt attempt is not a swing here, unlike on the plate-discipline columns. The denominator of every bat-tracking average. See runbook section 58.

Agreement with Savant

Checked nightly. Agreement tolerance: ±13 — in swings: the threshold is a percentile judged on unrounded speeds, so the swings in the tie cluster at the 10th percentile cannot be classified from published 0.1 mph values (runbook §60).

Pitcher

Competitive swings against this pitcher: tracked swings at or above each batter's own 10th-percentile bat speed for the season, plus slower swings of at least 60 mph that still produced a 90+ mph exit velocity. Formula

sum(comp_swings)::int — tracked swings at or above the batter's own season 10th-percentile bat speed (percentile_cont(0.10) over the batter's tracked swings, regular season, all dates), or below it with bat_speed >= 60 and a 90+ mph exit velocity. The flag is a season-level fact on each swing, never recomputed for a window; the pitcher side sums the BATTER's flags.

Era caveats

Bat tracking begins 2023-07-14

Savant's bat-tracking fields -- bat speed, swing length, attack angle, attack direction and swing tilt -- are on the wire from 2023-07-14. Every bat-tracking column is empty for 2015-2022, 2023 covers the second half of the season only, and a span that starts earlier counts only the swings from that date. Parity is unaffected: Savant's own 2023 boards carry the same partial season, and the six closed season-sides reconcile to the player. (runbook §59)
